VALLEYVIEW — Two males have been charged following the disappearance of a Sturgeon Lake resident last week.
Earlier this week, Valleyview RCMP would release a missing person’s report regarding a 51-year-old male resident of Sturgeon Lake which would indicate the man had been missing since the evening of June 16th. However, after an investigation by the RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit, it would be determined that two males — 22-year-old Allan Hamelin and 39-year-old Harlin Martineau — would be responsible for the Sturgeon Lakes resident’s sudden disappearance.
Hamelin and Martineau were taken into custody on Thursday June 20th, as both would be charged with first degree murder, kidnapping and assault with a weapon. Both suspects have been remanded into custody for a court appearance on June 24th at Grande Prairie Provincial Court.
The investigation to this point has been spearheaded by the Valleyview RCMP in conjunction with the Grande Prairie RCMP’s Forensic Identification Services, Grande Prairie RCMP Police Dog Services and RCMP Air Services. Search & Rescue Teams from Grande Prairie and Valleyview also assisted in the investigation.
The investigation is still ongoing and the body of the 51-year-old male has yet to be recovered.
