Town of Peace River closes recreational services due to pandemic fears

Effective March 16th, the Town of Peace River has closed the Peace Regional Pool, Baytex Energy Centre, Peace River Museum, Archives, and Mackenzie Centre. The town states they are focused on maintaining more on critical services, such as water and wastewater treatment, and fire and protective services.

The Town Hall will be staying open. It is unknown as to whether the Peace River library will be seeing a closure in the future.

The Low-Income Senior’s Tax Filing event scheduled for Wednesday March 18 at Heritage Towers has been cancelled, and residents are encouraged to call (780) 623-1000 ext. 1030 to make alternate arrangements. The program will be going ahead and seniors may still get help, but the event is cancelled indefinitely.

The town will be assisting by ensuring supplies are sufficiently stocked for places such as Alberta Health Services, and keeping town employees healthy. The town will also be updating it’s Pandemic Business Community Plan, which was drafted in 2009.

Those worried about COVID-19 can take the AHS COVID-19 Online Self-Assessment.
