Peace Country Fire Update (May 10th, 2019)

Peace River — The first wave of fire advisories are hitting the Peace Country. Residents in these areas are asked to follow proper instruction to help prevent the spread of forest fires:

Northern Sunrise County: Fire Ban

  • No Open Fires of any kind (firepit,
  • No Fireworks or Pyrotechnics
  • No new permits will be handed out; existing permits are suspended

 

M.D of Peace River: Fire Ban

  • does not apply to portable heating appliances that are fully contained and are fueled by gas or propane
  • Backyard fires are NOT allowed at this time

M.D of Fairview: Fire Advisory

  • Safe campfires ARE allowed
  • People are being reminded to ensure fires are extinguished properly

Birch Hills County: Fire Restriction

  • Large Fuel Fires are NOT allowed
  • Campfires and hand piled fires ARE allowed

Peace River & High Level Forest Regions: Fire Advisory

  • Existing Fire permits remain valid
  • New permits will be handed out on a case-by-case basis
  • People are asked to be aware of their fires and to ensure they are put out properly
  • Off-Road vehicles should be inspected to ensure they don’t pose a risk

Big Lakes County & Slave Lake Forest Region: Fire Advisory

  • Existing Fire permits remain valid
  • New permits will be handed out on a case-by-case basis
  • People are asked to be aware of their fires and to ensure they are put out properly
  • Off-Road vehicles should be inspected to ensure they don’t pose a risk
