MP Arnold Viersen looking to spread holiday cheer to troops serving overseas

Arnold Viersen wants Peace region residents to think about the men and women with the Canadian Armed Forces that are serving around the globe. The Peace River-Westlock MP suggests constituents can show their appreciation to our military but sending soldiers a card. “Many of these service members are overseas in places like Latvia or Poland so we need to show our support,” says Viersen. “While we are able to be at home with our families over the Christmas holidays, they are out defending our country, and our interests, around the world.”

While Viersen says he has never personally witnessed troops overseas receiving the cards and gifts, he has spoken with several soldiers who appreciate the time Canadians take to wish them a happy holiday season and thank them for their service. “I know a few soldiers and they tell me about how that (getting a card from someone they never met) was such a big deal for them when they were serving in Afghanistan,” states Viersen. “The random letters they got from good-hearted Canadians always was a good boost to their morale.”
