Metis Week Being Celebrated

The Metis Nation of Alberta is celebrating Metis Week this week.

Tricia Frank from the Region 6 office in Peace River says it’s about commemorating the contributions of Metis people to Canadian society.

“It is an exciting time for Metis because we signed a government to government agreement with the crown, and now moving forward along with all of our Metis citizens in Alberta will engage to build our constitution.”

Frank adds that they’re also doing some awareness work in the schools in the area.

“Our youth coordinator will be working with the schools in our region of Peace River, Grimshaw and Fairview and working with our elders and bringing that to the students.”

The Metis Nation flag was also raised in Riverfront Park in Peace River to commemorate the week.
