May 2018 – Abigail Robinson

The Tim Hortons Athlete of the Month for May is Abigail Robinson. Abigail is a grade 11 student at Glenmary School who competes in hockey, volleyball and rodeo. She played hockey for team Alberta North at the Arctic Winter Games in Fort Smith, NWT. Abigail says one of her favourite things about playing at the Arctic Winter Games was making new friends on her team.

Abigail says she can’t choose a favourite sport, and that she’s passionate about all of the sports she plays.

“I do more than just hockey-hockey is a huge part of my life, but also, I’m into rodeo and I play volleyball for my school. It’s a huge part of my life. It’s pretty much everything I do,” says Abigail.

Since she was twelve years old, Abigail has watched the Pittsburgh Penguins and considers the team one of her role models.

“My role models are pretty much my favourite team: The Pittsburgh Penguins. Sidney Crosby is one of my huge idols.”

Abigail has played hockey for 9 years, and is currently in high school rodeo, where she competes in pole bending, barrel racing and goat tying.

“My favourite is poles. It’s hard, but it’s a lot of fun because there’s so much going on. You have to weave through all these poles at a fast pace. It’s just a lot of adrenaline also.”

Abigail’s goal is to one day play on a college hockey team.

When Abigail was nominated for athlete of the month, she was described as a role model and mentor at Glenmary school, and for female athletes and hockey players in her community. Congratulations, Abigail! Good luck with everything you do-we’re sure you’d make Sidney Crosby proud.
