Local shopping events a way for people to get deals while supporting small businesses

Several communities throughout the Peace Region are getting ready for the holiday season. Local chambers of commerce will be holding shopping events this weekend (and some in December). The Valleyview and District Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual Frosty Friday event, in which local stores will remain open. Chamber Vice-President, Jessica Hadfield, says spending your dollars locally keeps them in the community. “A lot of these businesses put a lot of money back into the community,” says Hadfield. “They support hockey, football, and the arts so our small businesses put a lot of money back into it (the community).”

The Fairview Chamber and District Chamber of Commerce is hosting its Moonlight Madness and Santa Claus parade on Friday as well. Chamber Executive Director, Chelsea Carter, says aside from supporting the local businesses, people will also have an opportunity to save money on their holiday shopping. “There are a ton of deals throughout town and businesses will be open until 11:00 PM,” mentions Carter.

The Trending 55 Newsroom also had a chance to Ramona Thoma, Executive Director for the Peace River and District Chamber of Commerce about this Friday’s Midnight Madness. The full interview is below.
