Jan Welke is officially a member of High Level’s town council. Welke won the by-election last week and was sworn in on Monday evening before the council meeting. Welke wants to take some time to learn the municipal political process. “It will be a significant learning curve to understand the municipal politics I will be getting myself involved in,” says Welke.
Welke also talks about what he hopes to bring to council and the town. “I am a strong advocate for economic development in the north,” mentions Welke. “Healthcare is also my field as a pharmacist. I also want to bridge communication between different organizations and the town is something I am very interested in.”
The seat on town council became vacant when Beth Gillis stepped down on August 31.
