High Level releases capital budget for 2020

The Town of High Level is spending $4,990,000.

That is how much council is committing to its 2020 capital budget for 27 projects.

Over 68 percent of the budget is dedicated to operation costs.

“There is quite a bit of infrastructure remediation in this budget,” says High Level Chief Administrative Officer, Clark McAskile. “However, there is also a lot of planning for future infrastructure upgrades and remediation.”

McAskile says he believes the item residents will notice is work on sidewalks with the down spending $350,000. “That’s a project that will carry on for the next few years,” explains McAskile. “Not necessarily at the $350,000 level but council has made a commitment to remediate sidewalks in some of the older sections of town.”

According to the budget document, the town has identified hazardous areas and will work on those first.

McAskile says the town will also be working to improve traffic flow in the Bison Developments Area, which is near Tim Hortons.

“There is no flow-through for trucks so they end up trying to turn around on the streets in the area so we are going to be building an entry road out to Highway 35 on the south end of that development.”
