February 2019 – Ethan Lounsbury

The Tim Horton’s Athlete of the Month for February is Ethan Lounsbury.

Ethan is a grade 11 student at Glenmary School, and plays on the school’s volleyball and basketball teams. He also volunteers as an assistant coach for the junior high basketball and volleyball teams, mentors students, officiates junior high league games, and volunteers for the Youth Warriors basketball league in Peace River.

Last year, Ethan volunteered for over 200 hours mentoring and coaching athletes, and was recently recognized by the Town of Peace River with a Youth Volunteer Recognition Award. He is regarded as a mentor for the students, and is considered a true “Glenmary Saint”.

Ethan has been into basketball since he was five year old, and started playing competitively since he was ten. As for volleyball, he recently got into it last season. Aside from basketball and volleyball, Ethan also enjoys playing golf.

What he loves most about sports is that it’s a team effort and he enjoys the competitive spirit that it entails. His sports role models are his teammates, whom he looks up to, as well as pro-basketball player Kobe Bryant.

Ethan got into volunteering because he would like to go on to teach and coach players when he’s older, and figured that helping out as an assistant coach for the junior high teams would be a good start. He says that volunteering has made him a better athlete because as a coach, watching other people play has opened his eyes to new plays and approaches to the game.

Ethan says he was excited to get the Youth Volunteer Recognition Award, and thought it was awesome that people in his school recognized his efforts.

Now that he’s the Athlete of the Month, Ethan would like thank the coaches he got to work with throughout the years, and would also like to thank his teacher Kellie Coen for nominating him for the Athlete of the Month. Ethan wants to give a special thank you to his parents, Glenn and Elaine, for all their support in his high school athletic career, as they never missed a single game he played, coached, or refereed.

As for future endeavors, Ethan wants to continue playing sports in his final year of high school, and hopes to continuing playing basketball in college.

Congratulations Ethan! We wish you all the best, and keep up the great work!
