Fairview’s Basnett Making Mark In AJHL

One of the top teams in the AJHL has a player from the Peace region playing a key role in their lineup.

Fairview’s Cole Basnett is currently playing with the Spruce Grove Saints.

One thing he says pushes him to be a better player is the level of competition in the AJHL.

“The North is definitely the tougher of the two divisions because the teams are usually a lot bigger and stronger. When I was playing in the South, there was a lot more speed and skill, but now the Northern teams are trying to find a good balance of both.”

Basnett calls the Saints a “top notch organization” and says his billets in Spruce Grove have also been very supportive of him as well.

He also credits his family and his minor hockey coaches for helping him be successful in his hockey career.

“I had one coach in Fairview, Trevor Morrow, he’d get up in the mornings and go running with me and stuff just to get me trained for camps that I was going to. He was always a big part of my life and my hockey career.”

The 19 year old is hoping to get a scholarship to play at an NCAA school next season.
