Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister is coming to Peace River. Chrystia Freeland, who is originally from Peace River, will be attending the Peace River and District Chamber of Commerce’s annual general meeting on Wednesday, January 8. Chamber President, Justin Hicks, says it is very exciting for the chamber and its members. “She (Freeland) holds a very high-responsibility position,” says Hicks. “It’s a time of profound change and uncertainty and given the relations between Alberta and the federal government, we at the chamber are looking forward to hosting her and this forum.”

Hicks also imagines that the business community will have plenty of questions for Freeland. “The Trans Mountain Pipeline is a big topic,” comments Hicks. “Also what the government’s plan is to make Albertans and Western Canadians feel more involved. As business leaders, we want to know that our voices are being heard by the government.”

The AGM starts at 11:30 AM at the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre. Seating is limited so the Chamber of Commerce encourages anyone interested in attending to register as soon as possible.
