The Tim Hortons Athletes of the Month for December are the Peace River Curling Club’s Junior Curlers.
The Junior Curlers are a group of youths who are jumping into the world of curling for the first time. The group has kids from the ages of 6 to 14; some who have experience with the game, and others who are just beginning.
President of the Peace River Curling Club, Jody Bekevich, explains working with young curlers is a rewarding experience, as she gets to see the progress the kids make in their early stages with the game.
“I actually hadn’t realized how much fun it’d be to hang out with the kids every week,” says Bekevich. “To see the look in their face when they get to the other end of the ice for the first time, they get so excited.”
Junior Curler, Judah Marceau says he’s returned to the Junior Curlers for the second season in a row, and says one of his favourite things about the club is being able to spend time with the other Junior Curlers.
“My favourite thing is the interactions you have, and just being able to learn this fun game,” says Judah.
Peace River’s Junior Curlers will be taking to the ice to enjoy some curling until the season wraps up in March.
Congratulations, Junior Curlers, for being December’s Athletes of the Month.
