Advanced polling for Peace River Regional Airport referendum coming up tomorrow

Peace River residents can have their say on the future of the local airport’s management starting on Saturday.

The town is holding a referendum where the following question will be asked:

“The Town of Peace River currently owns and operates the Peace River Regional Airport, which costs regional taxpayers over $740,000 per year. The Town is considering alternatives for ownership and management of the airport. All the options being considered to involve turning over operations and ownership to an independent, non-profit organization with a required commitment to preserving current services at the airport such as Air Ambulance and Forestry Services.”

Voters will be able to say they are in favour, or against, outside management or ownership.

The ballot also gives residents an option to provide additional comments or suggestions to the town.

The advance poll will be conducted at Athabasca Hall from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

The non-binding referendum vote will take place on February 5.
